Discover the center of Turin

Piazza Bodoni

If the streets and squares in the center of Turin are renowned for their elegance, Piazza Bodoni is the quietest and most reserved lounge.

Rarely crossed by traffic and far from the streets of the nightlife, it is characterized by the presence of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, whose neo-baroque style gives the nineteenth-century square a unique refinement and a pleasant musical background.

Via Po

It is perhaps the most beloved way of Turin. The arcades are much older than those of Via Roma: they date back to 1720, when by the will of Vittorio Amedeo II the old Contrada di Po – the road that since the seventeenth-century urban development wanted by Carlo Emanuele II led to the river and from there through a stone bridge in Chieri and Monferrato – was rebuilt in the aspect that still retains.

In the first half of the nineteenth century, instead, Vittorio Emanuele I had the porticoed balconies added on the left side towards the Po, so that you can walk along the street and up to the square without getting wet even in case of rain.

Via Roma

Until 1871 it was called Via Nuova (or Contrada Nuova): it was inaugurated at the end of the sixteenth century to a design by Ascanio Vitozzi and by the will of Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy.

The current appearance, with the elegant arcades and store windows, is instead due to the interventions made in the 1930s. Once dotted with luxury stores, today it continues to be frequented by lovers of more modern and relatively inexpensive shopping.
